Alice in wonderland mary blair 70th
Alice in Wonderland was definitely a story that resonated with me as a child. It’s a story that I think people really consider psychedelic, but I’ve always had wandering thoughts of far off lands where things are exaggerated, different and even wondrous.
When I started working at Disney I didn’t know what a huge deal Mary Blair was, but over time and observation I noticed how revered she was. I researched and studied her and her style. I read about her being the first female concept artist at Disney and how that style helped craft the playful Disney look. She inspired so much of the stylization and environments. You can really tell between Sleeping Beauty and the Alice foliage. I was able to go through the archives and pull her signature from an old painting and make it into vector for the logo.

Alice in Wonderland was one of the big projects Mary Blair worked on with her signature style, we carefully pulled her art from the archives and created patterns and used a couple rich royal blues, yellow, pastel pink, teal and white for this collection. To create a tea set was so appropriate and we made so many amazing products, including: headbands, tea towels, blankets, candles, pillows, it was such a great collection.
